Two Android personal media players shipping later this year

Sony is continuing to extend its line of Walkman-branded personal music players with a raft of new models, including two Android devices. The Walkman NW-ZX1 and NW-F880 range, powered by Android 4.1, will be going on sale in Japan later this year, alongside new media players in the S-series and M-series ranges.

The ZX1 and the F880 range boast four-inch, 854x480-resolution touchscreens, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC, and GPS, writes Unwired View. The F880 series, continuing from last year's F800 series and also including an FM radio, will be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities and will cost between 27,000 yen ($275) and 40,000 yen ($405). The ZX1 eschews the FM radio in favor of 128GB of storage, and has a price tag of 75,000 yen ($750). The F880 range is shipping on October 19th in Japan, while the ZX1 will go on sale in December.

The S-series will include the S780 and S780K models, with the K version including a speaker dock, reports Slashgear. Onboard noise cancellation will cut out 98 percent of ambient noise, an FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, video player, photo browser, a playback speed control, a 320x240 display, and approximately 77 hours of music playback from a single charge. Shipping on October 19th in capacities of up to 32GB, the S-series will start from 18,000 yen ($180). The M-series, shipping on December 7th for 18,000 yen ($180) also has active noise cancellation, an FM radio, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity, but is housed in a much more compact casing.

It is not known how many of these new models, if any, will be sold by Sony in the US or Europe.
