Utilities now work across platforms
Amazon has updated its GameCircle and WhisperSync for Games services for mobile apps, adding support for iOS devices. The refresh essentially brings true cross-platform gaming features between Android devices, including the Kindle Fire, and the iPhone and iPad, overcoming the previous incompatibility with Apple's own Game Center platform.
Game data can now be stored in the Amazon Web Services cloud, enabling users to suspend a session on one platform and resume the game on another OS. GameCircle v2 also merges achievements and leaderboards, while WhisperSync brings automatic conflict resolution, improved offline support and new analytic features for developers.
In a blog post, the company suggests developers can have the new features "up and running" in under an hour, without worrying about issues with data coming from different devices or different versions of their game. The services are said to work with any Android or iOS apps, regardless of the marketplace in which they originate.
Developers can download the SDK from Amazon's Mobile App Distribution Portal, which includes documentation to assist in the integration process.
