Three-month Samsung exclusive for BBM denied by BlackBerry

BlackBerry Messenger could be launching at the end of the week, with Samsung Galaxy smartphones being its first outlet, according to a report. The BBM app is said by Samsung Nigeria's Twitter feed to go live on Friday, though it is not clear if it will be also going live on other Android devices, or even through iOS, at the same time.

The Twitter post also alluded to a possible three-month exclusivity period for Samsung, though a statement provided to CrackBerry from BlackBerry states that "no-one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We'll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon." A launch at the end of the week is likely, as BlackBerry is holding an event in India and Malaysia on Wednesday, though this could be to launch the BlackBerry Z30 or 9720 in the regions instead.

A version of the Android BBM client has allegedly leaked, also via CrackBerry. The .apk file for the app is said to show a log-in screen, but will not allow users to go any further. The appearance of the app certainly signals to an imminent release, though a regional roll-out has been hinted at in the past.

A BlackBerry executive revealed earlier this month that a final version of BBM for iOS has been submitted to Apple for approval, but had entered the process two weeks prior. There is no word on whether or not it has been approved for download.
