Asus reveals revised PadFone Infinity with upgraded processor

updated 08:03 am EDT, Tue September 17, 2013

Faster processor, lower storage capacity, microSD slot in new model

As teased by the company last week, Asus has launched the updated version of its PadFone Infinity. The new version of the combined smartphone and dockable tablet system uses an improved quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM, instead of the 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 used in its predecessor, as well as a few other minor changes.

Storage has dropped from a choice of 32GB and 64GB capacities to 16GB and 32GB, but the new model adds a microSD card slot, according to Android Community, though the remaining specifications remain relatively similar to the original. The smartphone element uses the same 5-inch, 1080p display, 13-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing version, and 2,400mAh battery. Though it loses the Garmin navigation suite used in the earlier model, the operating system has been updated to Android 4.2.

The optional 10.1-inch tablet dock is relatively similar to the previous model, offering a 1080p resolution and an extra battery, though owners of the original system can just use the new PadFone Infinity with the older model tablet.

Available in a choice of Titanium Black and Platinum White, Asus will be shipping the PadFone Infinity smartphone in Taiwan for NT$ 18,990 ($640) and NT$20,990 ($710) for the 16GB and 32GB models, while the tablet dock will cost NT$7,000 ($240) on it's own. International shipping of the PadFone has yet to be revealed by Asus.
