Sony PS Vita TV could gain PS3 game streaming support

SCE CEO states gaming extender technically capable of cloud game streaming

The recently-announced PS Vita TV may be able to perform more functions that originally revealed. Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House revealed that the gaming device, said to be able to play games from its handheld consoles as well as act as a media extender for the PlayStation 4, is also technically able to play PlayStation 3 games.

In a roundtable interview, House revealed to TechOn that the console would be able to support the same Gaikai-powered game streaming of PlayStation 3 titles as the PlayStation 4, and so is considering adding the functionality to the PS Vita TV in the future. The device is also able to play games made for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable, play audio and video stored elsewhere on a local network, and to allow for users to play on the PlayStation 4 from another room.

Sony has yet to reveal any plans for a global launch of the PS Vita TV, which will be initially launching in Japan for the equivalent of $95, or $140 when bundled with an 8GB memory card and DualShock 3 controller.
