FCC documents show slight battery boosts in iPhone 5s, 5c

updated 10:35 am EDT, Thu September 12, 2013

Explains improved performance in official Apple specs

Both the iPhone 5s and the 5c use slightly better batteries, helping to explain some of the improved power performance claimed by Apple, FCC documents show. The 5c's battery has roughly 5 percent more capacity than the iPhone 5, up to 5.73Whr and 1507mAh. The 5s has 10 percent more, sitting at 5.96Whr and 1570mAh.

Apple claims that both the 5s and 5c are capable of 10 hours of 3G/4G data, and 250 hours of standby. Those figures are up from 8 hours and 225 hours, respectively, for the iPhone 5. That still leaves the 5s and 5c well behind some other modern phones, like the Galaxy Note II and Droid MAXX, but the 4-inch size of the iPhone constrains how big its battery can be.
