updated 09:24 pm EDT, Wed September 11, 2013

Three color options available for cloud-oriented laptop

Following its brief reveal at the IFA keynote, HP today formally announced the new HP Chromebook 14, the first Chromebook powered by an Intel processor. The unit is based on the fourth-generation Haswell microarchitecture, offering a large display and optional 4G for on-the-go connectivity. The new design is available in Snow White, Ocean Turquoise and Coral Peach, and will be available at retail for the holiday season.

The HP Chromebook's 14-inch diagonal is referred to by the company as a high-definition display, though it has not provided specific resolution. The HP Chromebook 14 also includes a scant 16GB solid-state drive for local storage. Connectivity is provided by HDMI 1.3, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and a combination headphone and microphone jack. Certain models of the HP Chromebook include up to 200 MB of free data per month for two years of 4G mobile broadband service on the T-Mobile network. All models include 100GB of free storage from Google Drive for two years.

The HP Chomebook 14 will be available online and at select retailers starting at $299 and up, depending on configuration.
