Asus intros T100 convertible Windows 8 tablet for $349

Tablet integrates Bay Trail processor

Asus has introduced the Transformer Book T100, a convertible ultraportable powered by Intel's new Bay Trail system-on-chip (SoC). Notably, the new 10.1-inch tablet and detachable keyboard are powered by Windows 8.1 and carry a $349 entry price for the 32GB model.

The new Bay Trail chip, which is geared for tablets and smartphones, provides quad-core processing and helps the device reach a claimed battery life of up to 11 hours. The Atom chipset is paired with a 1280x720 IPS touchscreen, all in a package that weighs just over one kilogram.

The T100 serves as a smaller cousin to the T300, which features a larger 13.3-inch display and Intel Core-series processor. The larger Transformer Book only lists an eight-hour battery life.

The T100 will be available beginning October 18. A 64GB variant will be sold alongside the 32GB model, bringing the price up to $399.
