Second-gen Tabeo e2 tablet offers improved durability, parental controls

Toys R Us has revealed the Tabeo e2, an upgraded 8-inch Android tablet targeted at children. In addition to a child-friendly design with a tougher display and a rubberized siding frames, the device also incorporates a range of parental controls and other software tweaks designed to keep children safe. This includes access to a curated Tabeo app store, while it also comes preloaded with 30 games and educational apps to get users started out of the box.

The Tabeo e2 includes newly updated parental controls that allows parents to see when new apps are installed, while also allowing them to block unwanted apps from running. Parents can also control when apps are permitted to run, including on certain days of the week. The built-in app guide also helps parents of children with special needs to find apps that will help children develop skills in areas of need.

The Tabeo e2 runs Android 4.2 'Jelly Bean,' while a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz powers it. Its 8-inch display has a 720p resolution of 1024x768 pixels, while it comes with on board storage of 8GB, though this is expandable by up to an additional 64GB through a microSD card slot. Content can also be shared on a TV display via the built-in mini HDMI port. It will go on sale in October for $150.
