Intel brings Venue brand back from the dead with Bay Trail tablet

updated 06:02 pm EDT, Wed September 11, 2013

New 8-inch device will be detailed October 2

Dell's axed Venue cellphone brand is being resurrected in tablet form later this year. At today's IDF keynote, Vice President Neil Hand briefly showed an eight-inch Venue-branded device with the Intel Bay Trail processor, saying that it would share more details about the new 1080p device with the world on October 2.

The Venue tablet is likely not going to run Windows Phone 7 or Android 2.2 like its smartphone namesake, and will probably be on some form of Windows 8, whether it be RT or conventional Windows. It will charge over micro USB, and uses microSD for either primary storage, or storage expansion. HDMI-out and a docking port also adorn the tablet. Intel claims that $199 Bay Trail tablets are possible, but it is unknown if the Dell device will hit that price point.
