Angular chiseled design, shifted power buttons in new Amazon tablet

New images reportedly showing the next version of the Kindle Fire HD tablet line have surfaced. Photographs of the tablet, expected to be launched by the retailer in the coming months, appears to reveal that the previously rumored chiseled and angular design has made it through to the final product, with the side power and volume buttons now mounted on the back.

The photographs received by BGR, heavily edited to remove markings that could identify the source, show the buttons placed on the angled sides of the wedge-shaped device, which allows them to be raised off a surface when the tablet is placed on its back. The speakers have also been moved to the top, on the same angular sections. It is claimed that both the 7-inch and 8.9-inch models will be more comfortable to use and lighter than the current Kindle Fire HD tablets, and that the upscaled 8.9-inch version will be almost identical in design to its smaller stablemate.

Sources also state that the 7-inch model will have a 1,920x1,200 display, a quad-core 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and optional cellular network connections, and a choice of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage options. The 8.9-inch version will have similar internal specifications, a 2,560x1,600-resolution screen and a rear-mounted 8-megapixel camera.
