Apple offers iOS 7 GM, 64-bit transition guide to developers

updated 04:11 pm EDT, Tue September 10, 2013

Confirms support for iPad

In preparation for September 18th's official iOS 7 launch, Apple has started seeding the iOS 7 gold master (GM) to developers. A GM is essentially the finished version of the firmware, although Apple can conceivably issue a last-minute update if necessary. Significantly, iPad versions of the GM are available, shooting down rumors that the iPad release of iOS 7 might be delayed.

Developers also have access to a new document explaining how to transition apps to a 64-bit codebase. The A7 processor in the new iPhone 5s uses a 64-bit architecture, although it continues to support 32-bit apps. The iPhone 5c still uses the A6 chip found in the basic iPhone 5.
