Prospective iPhone buyers set up camp at Fifth Avenue Apple Store

updated 01:16 pm EDT, Fri September 6, 2013

Line forms before new devices even announced

A handful of people have already started forming a line outside Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York City, reports say. Two people are said to have got in line Thursday night, and were joined today by two people from an Ohio-based company called SellYourMac. Apple won't even be announcing any new products until its September 10th press event; the focuses of that event, the iPhone 5S and 5C, are only forecast to ship on or around September 20th.

The Fifth Avenue store is Apple's US flagship, and the center of media coverage for any iPhone or iPad launch. Because of this, businesses and other groups with an agenda will often get in line for increased publicity. For New Yorkers simply interested in buying a new device, there are four other Apple Stores in the area to turn to, as well as carrier outlets, third-party vendors, and Apple's online store.

Umm... would someone please tell these people that the devices have never gone on sale the day of the announcement? They'll be there for at least two weeks, don't you think?

Yeah, but they want attention, not necessarily an iPhone. And they got it, didn't they? :)

I'll bet a couple of them are planning to sell their place in line for significant bux after a week or so. The rest are just there to feed the legend and call attention to their cause/business/scam.
