Xiaomi Mi-3 launches with high-end specs, mid-range price
Former Google VP for Android has already taken up his new dutieswith Chinese Android handset maker Xiaomi. The new VP of Xiaomi Global attended today's launch event for the company's new flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi-3. The new handset boasts high-end specs including the option of a Nvidia Tegra 4 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processors in a 5-inch 1080p device retailing outright for as little as $327 for the 16GB model or $408 for a 64GB variant.
The new smartphone keeps with Xiaomi's philosphy of selling high-end devices packed with the latest technology for thin profit margins. Similarly specified devices made by other Android makers like Samsung and HTC retail for considerably more, however, Xiaomi has yet to launch a push into international markets. The arrival of Hugo Barra in the role of VP of Xiaomi Global could well change that scenario, which could be very good news for consumers.
In addition to the high-performance chips, the Mi-3 incorporates 2GB of RAM and packs a 5-inch 1080p IPS display with a pixel density of 441ppi. It also utilizes a Sony Exmor RS 13-megapixel camera sensor combined with a five-element lens and packs a 2-megapixel shooter in the front. The device weighs 145grams and measures just 8.1mm thin, while it will ship with a MIUI v5 skin atop Android 4.2.1. [via GSM Arena]
