Toshiba Encore 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet includes Office preinstalled

Toshiba has launched two new tablets at IFA, both of which will be compatible with Windows 8.1. The Satellite Click is a 13.3-inch detachable tablet that can convert to a notebook by attaching a keyboard dock, while the Encore tablet is an 8-inch model with multi-touch capabilities and a budget-oriented price tag, that attempts to mimic the functionality of larger versions.

The Satellite Click is one of the first to run using AMD's low-power A4 accelerated processing unit, effectively a dual-core 1GHz A4-1200 processor with an AMD Radeon HD 8180 GPU, along with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The tablet also includes a built-in webcam, Micro USB 2.0 and HDMI ports, and a microSD card slot built into it, so that the keyboard can be removed without losing any major functionality. The base includes, aside from a full-size keyboard and touchpad, a USB 3.0 port with Toshiba's USB Sleep and Charge technology, and an extra battery. Toshiba will be shipping the Satellite Click through Best Buy stores and its website later this month for $600.

The Encore tablet uses an Intel Atom processor using the quad-core Bay Trail architecture, with 32GB of expandable storage. Using a 1280x800-resolution IPS display, the Encore has a 2-megapixel camera on the front with dual microphones with beam forming technology, which it suggests makes it optimized for Skype, along with a rear 8-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, stereo speakers, Micro USB 2.0 and Micro HDMI ports, and a microSD card reader. It will also ship with Office Home & Student onboard. The Encore will be shipping in November for $330.
