Option to pay $15 per year for unlimited Path Shop content
Path has started offering premium subscriptions for its service to its users, providing unlimited access to a number of items, as well as removing advertisements. The paid service comes at the same time as the private social network introduces more privacy-related features, and commences a global partnership with T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom.
The premium subscription, at a cost of $5 per quarter on iOS, $2 per month on Android, or $15 per year on both platforms, will allow users to have unlimited and immediate access to everything in Path's Shop, including its camera filters and sticker packs. Paid users will also gain access to Shop items before free members, and will not see any more advertisements on the network while the subscription is up-to-date. Path states in its blog that it plans to add additional features to Premium in the future, hinting at more personalization options.
The new Private Sharing option in version 3.2 of the app allows for users to share with a small subset of friends on the service, hiding it from any other connections. Members included in a privately shared item will see a lock on the message, and will also be able to see who else has been added to the limited broadcast. A new Inner Circle option will let members select others that are their closest friends, denoted by a star to both parties. A new option in the sharing screen will allow for quick sharing with the Inner Circle, in a similar way to Private Sharing.
Path's new partnership with Deutsche Telekom will allow the social network to have its app preloaded onto subscriber devices in Germany, including the HTC G3, LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the XCover 2. Deutsche Telekom's German customers will also receive a free year of the new Premium service.
