Lightweight tablet claimed a fifth lighter than 'premium tablets'

Lenovo has outed a new budget-oriented Android tablet heading to Europe, which is said by the company to be nearly a fifth lighter than most "premium tablets," such as the Nexus 7. The seven-inch S5000, measuring 7.9mm (0.31 inches) thick and weighing a light 246 grams (8.7 ounces), offers a seven-inch 1280x800-resolution display with a brightness of 350 nits.

Inside is a quad-core MediaTek 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The rear 5-megapixel camera is joined by a 1.6-megapixel front-facing counterpart, with a 3,450mAh battery said to last for up to 8 hours. A USB port provides the ability to expand the storage or charge other devices, while the Wi-Fi networking can be supplemented by a 3G connection in an alternate model.

The S5000 will be released in Europe in the fourth quarter, at a cost of 199 euros ($263) for the Wi-Fi model and $249 ($329) for the 3G version. A US release in the future remains unknown, but likely.
