Deutsche Telekom statement may hint at LTE-A support for iPhone 5S

updated 10:58 am EDT, Thu September 5, 2013

Could potentially double current LTE speeds

A new statement by Deutsche Telekom may suggest that the iPhone 5S will support LTE-A, also known as LTE+. Telekom is launching LTE+ service later this month, which will allow Germans to reach speeds up to 150Mbps. In its announcement, the carrier notes that Samsung is planning to offer an LTE+ version of the Galaxy S4, and that "appropriate devices from other manufacturers will follow the end of September."

Given that the iPhone 5S is expected to ship late this month, the window given by Deutsche Telekom may not be coincidental. No other rumors have pointed to LTE-A on the device, but at the same time, news of iPhone networking standards has rarely leaked out. Apple may also need to improve LTE support anyway if it intends to reach more countries.
