Surface tablet revisions alleged, new models likely imminent

Surface Pro to see Haswell, Windows RT version upgraded to Tegra 4

Details have begun to emerge about Microsoft's new line of Surface tablets. Allegedly, the new design of the proposed "Pro 2" version is externally similar to the original model, but includes a battery-conserving Intel Haswell processor, bringing with it enhanced graphical performance in addition to the battery life extension. Additionally, both editions of the tablet will boast a new kickstand, allowing the device to be used more easily on uneven surfaces.

According to The Verge, the Surface Pro 2 tablet will also see an increase to 8GB of RAM. The Haswell CPU upgrade is reportedly only adding two hours to the runtime of the tablet, but this may change with revisions to the software powering the Surface.

The Surface RT replacement will drop the "RT" designation for the next revision, potentially confusing the market even more than it already is. Reports suggest that the new model will use the Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset, in place of the Tegra 3 installed in the current iteration.
