updated 02:22 pm EDT, Wed September 4, 2013

New tablet available in 3G, LTE models, sports 4x pixel density of previous model

At the IFA trade show, Samsung today showed the refreshed Galaxy Note 10.1, 2014 edition tablet. The new device boasts a WQXGA LCD display running at 2560x1600 resolution in a 10-inch form factor, with a 1.9 GHZ eight-core processor in the 3G/WiFi version, or a 2.3GHz quad-core in the LTE model, with 3GB RAM. Also, the newest addition to the lineup brings Samsung's Knox security suite to the device.

The new device is slightly smaller than its predecessor due to its smaller bezel, and also 62g (2.3 ounces) lighter. The screen resolution has effectively doubled from 150ppi to 299ppi, giving four times more pixels per square inch. The battery has been boosted to 8,220mAh. The device will be available in 16, 32, or 64GB capacities, upgradeable with a MicroSD slot.

The rear camera is now an 8MP shooter, with the front camera being effectively unchanged. The Wi-Fi is now an 802.11ac device, versus the 802.11n capability in the previous model. Android 4.3 "Jelly Bean" ships on the device. Additionally, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition is one of only two devices compatible with the new Galaxy Gear smart watch at launch -- the other device being the new Galaxy Note 3.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition will all be available in the US later this year in Jet Black and Classic White. No specific launch date or pricing has been announced.
