Apple to hold separate Chinese event on September 11th

updated 09:54 am EDT, Wed September 4, 2013

Differences with US event unknown

Apple has sent out emails inviting the press to a Chinese event in Beijing, scheduled for 10AM local time on September 11th, reports say. The invitation resembles one sent to US outlets yesterday, calling them to a presentation at Apple's Cupertino headquarters on the 10th. It's unclear how the Chinese event will differ from its American counterpart.

The Chinese market has become extremely important to Apple as a new frontier and a growing proportion of sales. One of the products expected to premiere on the 10th, the iPhone 5C, may have been designed with China in mind. While the iPhone has sold reasonably well in the country so far, flagship models have had a hard time competing against Android devices, which are usually cheaper, especially unlocked. The 5C's main feature should be a lower pricetag.
