Nvidia Tegra Tab photographs appear in Taiwan NCC filing

Testing shows Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, no cellular radios

An Android tablet created by Nvidia has surfaced again, this time heading for regulatory approval. A filing at the Taiwan National Communications Commission in late August shows the Tegra Tab, complete with model number P1640, going in for testing on its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios, with the apparent lack of cellular radios notable in its absence.

The filing, spotted by Blog of Mobile, shows a tablet similar in appearance to the more-detailed images leaked out from China in mid-August. While its internal components remain relatively unknown, it is believed to house some form of Tegra-based processor, such as the Tegra 4 used in the Shield handheld gaming system. The missing carrier connectivity is odd, considering that the company demonstrated it could update the software-defined radio in its Tegra 4i mobile chipset, with a tablet being a suitable venue to demonstrate its usefulness.

While Nvidia has previously filed for the Tegra Tab trademark in the US in April, it has seemingly done little to offer products under the banner. Since the company has shown off how Tegra 4 could be used to improve stylus input in a tablet, as well as touting an unbranded smartphone that could launch in the first quarter of next year, it is possible that Nvidia could be lining up the tablet for release in the future, rather than offering it as another tablet reference design.
