Sony QX100, QX10 'lens camera' images, advertisement leak

Smartphone case with lens camera mount shown for first time

Just one day before Sony holds an event at IFA in Germany, a new collection of images for its anticipated lens camera launches has leaked. The images, which provide a close look of both the QX10 and QX100 lenses, is accompanied by a newly-leaked advertisement that demonstrates how the devices could be used with a smartphone.

The leaked product photographs are partly blurred to obscure "inappropriate political messages" according to Photo Rumors. Aside from giving an all-round look at the lenses from all angles, it also reveals that there may be a case for smartphones designed specifically for the lenses, allowing for a more permanent connection to a smartphone instead of using the previously-shown mounting attachment.

The advertisement from Mobile Leaks shows how a smartphone running the PlayMemories mobile app can connect to the system using NFC initially, then can be used separately, allowing for some shots that are not easily taken by standard cameras. Both the attachment accessory and the smartphone case are demonstrated in the clip, along with a touch-based in-app focus system, though it is not shown if you can use the camera completely independently from a smartphone.

Expected to launch tomorrow, the QX10 is said to have an 18-megapixel sensor with an f/3.3-5.9 lens, while the QX100 is said to have a 1-inch, 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor with an f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss lens. It is suggested that Sony may sell the QX10 and the QX100 for $250 and $450 respectively.
