CuBox begin pre-orders on diminutive ARM-based computer

Single processor, entry level model available for $45

Manufacturer and designer SolidRun has launched its CuBox-i series with a low $45 price tag on their CuBox-i1 entry level computer. Other members of the series are the CuBox-i2, CuBox-i2ultra and CuBox-i4pro. All are based on Freescale's i.MX6 SoC series, and offer a wide variety of configurations including single, dual and quad ARM processors running up to 1GHz.

SolidRun's open source software model is boosted by the contributions of the open source community, as well as the SolidRun engineering team. For many open source software packages, work is already completed or in the progress of porting to the diminutive computer. Ported software incude latest versions of the Linux kernel and several of its distributions, plus a branch of the XBMC Media Center. Alongside Linux, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is one of the major operating systems supported by the new computer.

The line boasts up to quad 1.0 GHz i.MX6 Cortex A9 ARM processors, up to 2GB of DDR-3, HDMI output, Gigabit Ethernet on some models, two USB 2.0 ports, a single e-SATA port, optical audio SPDIF-out, a MicroSD slot, WiFi 802.11n, and Bluetooth 3.0.

Configurations range form a single-core unit with 512MB of RAM for $45, up to the quad-core model for $120.
