Nokia 'Bandit' Windows Phone 8 phablet homescreen leaks

Lumia 1520 could offer 50 percent more homescreen

The Nokia Lumia 1520 'Bandit' 6-inch smartphone has had its homescreen leaked courtesy of @evleaks. The fully stocked homescreen reveals that the 6-inch display on the forthcoming phablet will support 50 percent more live tiles. This is in part due to the additional screen real estate combined with the addition of 1080p support in Windows Phone 8 GDR3 for the first time. The Lumia 1520 will also be the first Windows Phone device to support a quad-core processor.

While many have suggested that Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 should have formed the basis of its RT tablet OS, the 6-inch Lumia 1520 will go quite close to giving users a good look at how the Windows Phone 8 interface will work on a tablet-like device. The basic look and feel of the homescreen is very similar to the Modern UI of the Windows RT interface, although Windows Phone 8 UI does not have the desktop user interface that has been criticized by some.

Despite this, the Lumia 1520 is expected to launch in Q3 along with a 10.1-inch Nokia Windows RT 8.1 tablet, as the company looks to expand its mobile devices lineup. Both are expected to offer users plenty of power, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core chips expected to power the devices. With the breaking news today that Microsoft will acquire Nokia's mobile devices and services business in early 2014, it seems as though Nokia's immediate product pipeline won't be affected in the short to medium term.
