Hints at upcoming upgrade
Supplies of the 2012 iMac are constrained, sources claim. No other details are available, but reduced shipments from Apple often foreshadow hardware updates. A 2013 iMac is typically expected to upgrade to Intel's Haswell platform, and gain 802.11ac Wi-Fi, like the MacBook Air. The computer could conceivably gain a Retina display, but Apple suppliers have yet to produce a Retina panel above 15 inches. Current iMacs are sized at 21.5 and 27 inches.
Potentially supporting the idea of an iMac update is the evaporation of AirPort Express stock. Although individual Apple product inventories can sometimes dwindle without an impending refresh, several shrinking at the same time is unusual, especially in advance of a major press event. The company is widely expected to hold an iPhone announcement on the 10th, but could begin the event by revealing new Macs and peripherals.
