Google said not to restock lower-capacity smartphone

The 8GB model of the Google Nexus 4 has sold out on Google Play in the United States. The smartphone, recently subjected to a price cut of $100 down to $199, is now showing as "out of inventory" for its lower-capacity model, and directly hints towards an overall clearance of the device, potentially as preparation for the speculated Nexus 5.

Though the smartphone is now out of stock, as noted by Droid-Life, it is still available to purchase in other areas, such as in the United Kingdom. If it is for a stock clearance, then it is likely that the $249 16GB model will be coming up with a similar notice in the future. The Verge also claims that Google has advised it will not be restocking the cheaper model, but did not mention what would happen with the larger-capacity model.

The Nexus 5, expected to be launched sometime in October, is rumored to take a number of characteristics from the LG G2. If true, this would give it a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, and LTE connectivity, something the Nexus 4 lacks when compared to other flagship Android devices.
