Dice+ Bluetooth-enabled six-sided die now available

updated 06:20 pm EDT, Mon September 2, 2013

Die boasts thermometer, motion sensor, variable illumination

Dice+, the universal board game randomizer that brings real-world social interaction to digital gaming, launched a retail product today at Gamescom 2013, the world's biggest gaming convention. The new retail unit supplements the developer's kit for the peripheral that shipped earlier this year.

The Dice+ is a six-sided die, with features including an accelerometer, a magnetic field sensor, Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.0 compatibility, independent touch-sensitive faces, six LEDs that can glow in any color, a 20-hour battery, a microUSB port for charging, and a thermometer.

A free app is available on the iOS app store to use the dice's connectivity with seven games. David Gatti, marketing and PR director at Game Technologies, said of the SDK release that "we believe people are wired to play games in the company of each other. We can't just ignore 5,000 years of board games evolution -- and now we know we can deliver this great experience to powered board games."

The Dice+ retail kit will be available for $40, and includes a micro-USB cable for charging and preference-setting.
