Moto X to get price drop, wood backing option

Motorola's new Moto X customizable flagship smartphone will see a 50 percent discount in the next quarter, according to sources. Ever-prescient leaker @evleaks tweeted the news on Saturday, revealing that Motorola will indeed position the Moto X to compete better in terms of price. In addition to the price drop, the Moto X will also be getting a long-awaited build configuration.

The next quarter will also see the introduction of the wooden case options Motorola showed off when revealing the handset. Wooden cases were spotted earlier this week, but no estimated time of availability was given. The wooden cases will cost an additional $50.

There is as yet no word on what exactly the price drop may mean with regard to the Moto X's fortunes. The device debuted to generally solid reviews, and Motorola has been marketing it heavily, but sales figures likely will not be available until the end of this quarter.
