Alcatel completes revamped 2013 lineup with One Touch Idol S, Mini
Alcatel has rolled out a pair of new Android smartphones, the One Touch Idol S and the One Touch Idol Mini. The new 4.7-inch 720p One Touch Idol S sits below the recently launched Idol X, which centers on a larger 5-inch 1080p display. Rounding out the new One Touch Idol range is the Idol Mini, which centers on a 4.3-inch display with a 480x854 resolution.
The 4.7-inch Idol S is protected by Japan's Ashai Dragontrail glass, instead of Corning Gorilla glass, that also incorporates oleophobic coating with full lamination. It is powered by an unspecified dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz matched with 1GB of RAM. To help keep costs down, internal RAM is limited to 4GB of storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB with the addition of a microSD card. Connectivity also includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11n, DLNA 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS. The Idol S runs Android 4.2 and comes with six games preinstalled including Asphalt 7 and UNO & Friends.
The lower-end Idol Mini drops the Dragontrail glass for a scratch resistant Black Crystal touch panel, but retails the oleophobic coating and the full lamination. The device is powered by a dual-core chip clocked at 1.3GHz, but with RAM dropping to 512MB of RAM. Storage and microSD support varies depending on whether it is a single or dual-SIM variant and come with either 4GB of storage plus microSD support or 8GB of storage with no microSD support. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS.
The two devices will available soon with pricing details to be announced.
