AT&T prepares prepaid Aio Wireless for national rollout next month

updated 05:34 am EDT, Fri August 30, 2013

Expanding limited service area to across United States in mid-September

AT&T-owned MVNO Aio Wireless will be expanding its currently-limited coverage further afield, with the parent carrier stating that it will roll out the prepaid service across the United States. People located outside parts of Texas, Georgia, and Florida, areas where Aio currently operates, will be able to sign up for the carrier from mid-September.

Currently, Aio provides a range of three price plans that include unlimited text, voice minutes, and data usage. The Basic plan adds 250MB of 4G LTE data, using AT&T's network, for $40 per month, while the Smart and Pro plans offer 2GB and 7GB allocations of the high-speed connections, at $55 and $70 respectively. New customers signing up before September 29th will also receive the third month of their service free.

The prepaid service is already under pressure from competitors, even before its national launch. T-Mobile has filed a suit against AT&T and Aio, claiming that it is confusing customers by using the same shade of the color magenta, something Aio denied, suggesting "T-Mobile needs an art lesson, Aio doesn't do magenta."
