Discount added to Surface RT bundles, Touch Covers
Microsoft has decided to make its temporary price cut of the Surface Pro a permanent fixture, with the $100 price cut in the United States keeping the tablet computer at $799 for the base model. The same discount has also made its way across the Atlantic, with European customers seeing a similar permanent price cut.
The US discount, originally set to end on August 29th but extended according to a statement received by Neowin, is also joined by similar discounts for other Surface products. The Touch Covers have $40 off, making the standard version $79 and limited edition models starting from $89, while Surface RT bundles will now start from a $50-cheaper $399. The Type Cover, currently selling for $130, will not receive a discount.
European customers will see different discounts on the Surface Pro depending on the individual country, according to ZDNet. The UK sees an £80 ($124) cut, while Germany and France see a 100 euro ($132) drop, 110 euro ($145) for Italy, discounts of between 81 and 83 euro ($107 to $110) in Switzerland, and cuts of at least 63 euro ($83) in Scandinavian countries.
Microsoft has had trouble shipping sufficient numbers of the Surface, with the entire product line failing to make a profit despite revenues of $853 million, according to an SEC filing in July.
