Quad-core tablets form bulk of launches, smart watch teased

Archos has revealed what mobile devices it will be showing at IFA in Germany next week. A number of smartphones and tablets running on Android will be on display, including changes to its mobile phone line-up, and the company also teases a range of "Connected Objects," along with its own take on the smart watch concept.

The tablets will be headed up by aluminum-clad devices with quad-core processors in the Platinum range, according to Engadget, with some having resolutions as high as 2048x1536 and running on Android 4.2. The Gen11 Archos 101xs2 will also be shown complete with a HD IPS display, dual stereo speakers, a quad-core processor, and a magnetic keyboard. The Xenon range will be made up of three new tablets with HD screens, up to quad-core processors, and running on Android 4.2, with the 3G-connected devices being touted as cheaper than Wi-Fi tablets from Apple and Samsung. The ChildPad tablet range will offer parental controls and a filtered version of Google Play, with the 101 ChildPad also said to use magnetic figurines. The updated sequel to the Archos GamePad will also make an appearance.

The Archos smartphone line will see new additions to the Platinum and Titanium ranges, and a new Oxygen line. The flagship Archos 50 Oxygen offers a full HD IPS display, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of storage, 13MP and 5MP cameras on the rear and front, and stock Android 4.2. The Titanium range, starting from 99 ($150) for a 4-inch device, will offer dual-core processors, dual SIM card slots, 5MP and 0.3MP cameras, stock Android 4.2, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Archos will likely provide more details, such as regional release dates, during the IFA event.
