Mailbox update adds support for searching for messages in the cloud

Mailbox, an alternative e-mail client for iOS devices, has been updated with new support for searching through messages stored online. The app distinguishes itself from the default Mail app by allowing users to delete or archive messages by simply swiping them right or left, turning an inbox into a to-do list of sorts. Also new to this release is the ability to set unique signatures for every mail account and to open links in the Chrome iOS app. While currently limited to use with Gmail accounts, the developers have promised that support for other platforms is on the way.

Apple offering free songs as iTunes Festival promotion

Ahead of the upcoming iTunes Festival, Apple has started offering customers six free songs through its Apple Store app. All six of the songs, including Trying To Be Cool by Phoenix and The Curse by Agnes Obel, are from artists performing during September's iTunes Festival. The content can be accessed by navigation to a store location within the app, however the downloads are restricted to customers in the US.
