BitTorrent Sync coming to iOS, allows for private file transfer

updated 03:57 pm EDT, Tue August 27, 2013

Files only accessible to desired users, with three levels of permissions

BitTorrent has revealed that it is making its mobile BitTorrent Sync available to iOS users this week. BitTorrent Sync is a free, unlimited, and secure way to move large files across devices, and between people. There are no size caps or pricing tiers, as the bandwidth is provided by the users, and not a cloud service with remote corporate-provided servers.

Unlike other BitTorrent transfers, the mobile protocol is encrypted by a private key. Only other users provided the key are allowed to view and receive BitTorrent Sync files. Access can be unrestricted, read-only, or one-time.

Mobile devices can be connected to a sync folder via a QR code. To sync a desktop or laptop folder to a mobile device, scan the QR code using the smartphone with the BitTorrent Sync app installed.

The new version also incorporates 10 different languages into the app. German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal) have all been added alongside the native English version of the app.
