Sony Xperia Z1 power button gets a macro shot to tease arrival

Sony has published a Xperia Z1 "Honami" smartphone ahead of its anticipated launch on September 4. Accompanying the image the tweet says "It's the smartphone everyone's been talking about...not long now." The power button itself is not unique to the Xperia Z1, but it is also found on several of Sony's current Xperia range including the new Xperia Z Ultra -- however, compared to most smartphones, it conveys a sense of prestige due to its aluminum finish.

The Xperia Z1 is believed to be an extensive update to the current Xperia Z, but may retain a similar design to the current model. However, it is possible that previously published images have been of prototype devices may have been wrapped in the original Xperia Z casing, but running the upgraded internals to protect its final design. The official picture of its power button shows a leading edge that looks quite different from the leading edge and power button on the Xperia Z as you can see below.

The Xperia Z1 is said to derive its new designation from Sony's corporate strategy of 'One Sony,' which is aimed at bringing the best technology that can work in each of its devices from across its various divisions. The Xperia Z1 is expected to center on a much improved 5-inch 1080p display incorporating Sony's TV-derived Triluminos technology that uses a blue LED backlight instead of white to activate nano particles to produce a wider and more accurate color gamut. Its camera is expected to be 20.7-megapixels and use a discrete Bionz image processor to optimize pictures captured by its Exmor RS sensor. Its CPU and GPU, will however, be provided by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 chip with integrated Adreno 330 graphics.
