LG executive hints at tablet, phablet, flexible smartwatch plans

updated 07:58 am EDT, Wed August 21, 2013

New tablet, phablets from LG due by end of 2013

LG will be releasing a tablet by the end of this year, according to a company executive. Dimitar Valev, mobile communications head at LG Bulgaria, also revealed that it will also launch a new phablet later this year, as well as hinting at what to expect from the company in terms of smart watches, bendable displays, and Firefox OS devices next year.

In the interview with Dnevnik.bg, the executive believes that the next tablet launch from the company would take place soon. Though he did not give specifics, it is likely to be the 9.8-inch V500 tablet spotted by Engadget in an FCC filing, though an earlier rumor did suggest an 8.3-inch, 1920x1200-resolution G Pad.

In terms of smartphones, he suggests that there could be a Windows Phone device on the way, alongside existing Android offerings, with a 6-inch smartphone dwarfing the recently-launched LG G2 due early next year.

An LG smartwatch is also in the works, according to Valev, seemingly confirming earlier rumors. While he points out that LG did produce a smartwatch a few years ago, he also states that some markets could see a version of the device with a flexible display, something that the company previously said it would start manufacturing on in the fourth quarter of this year.
