Samsung launches second Android flip phone with dual screens, keypad

updated 10:23 am EDT, Wed August 21, 2013

Galaxy Golden uses two 3.7-inch Super AMOLED displays, 8MP camera

Samsung has launched a second Android-powered flip phone, one which takes a number of cues from the Hennessy revealed by the company last week. The Galaxy Golden uses two 3.7-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens mounted back-to-back on the top section, allowing it to be used both when it is closed, and when it is opened with the keypad visible.

Running on Android 4.2, the Galaxy Golden has a few slight upgrades when compared to the specifications of the similar Hennessy. Inside is a dual-core 1.7GHz processor and an FM radio, though storage and RAM is undisclosed, while on the back is an 8-megapixel camera. An "Easy Mode," a pedometer and S Health are also included, along with other features seemingly aimed towards the older generation.

Packed in a champagne gold colored casing, the Galaxy Golden will go on sale through South Korean carriers for 790,000 won ($700). Like the China-bound Hennessy, it is unlikely that Samsung will offer the Galaxy Golden in the US or Europe in the future.
