Radical.FM debuts first native app on iOS

updated 12:51 pm EDT, Tue August 20, 2013

Service uses unusual 'pay what you can' fee

Online music service Radical.FM has launched its first-ever native app, now available for the iPhone and iPad. The app lets users listen to curated and custom-built radio stations, called Genres. When creating a custom Genre, people can listen to a 30-second snippet of a track before adding it to a station and playing it automatically.

Genres can added, deleted, or edited. While listening, users can choose to block songs or entire artists; if they change their minds, tracks can later be unblocked. The app is a free download for any device running iOS 5 or later.

Radical.FM has a library of over 22 million songs. Although access is nominally free, the service depends on donations, which can be paid on a monthly or one-time basis. To further increase its reach, Radical says it is working on a matching Android app.
