Plantronics announces 'Rig,' new line of gaming peripherals

updated 08:45 pm EDT, Tue August 20, 2013

First product in line a console and smartphone cross-platform headset

Audio peripheral manufacturer Plantronics announced its upcoming line of gaming products, "Rig," at Gamescom 2013 earlier today. Rig products are designed to help today's multi-screen and multi-device connected gamers manage their digital life. RIG systems blend game audio and chat -- at home and on-the-go -- with mobile audio, music, and apps, and lets users take calls without hitting pause. The first member of the Rig family is a premium stereo headset and mixer audio system, available worldwide this fall.

With a smartphone connected to the mixer, switching between game chat and taking a phone call on the fly is simple, accomplished by a touch of the mixer paddle. Game players can inject an alternate soundtrack by firing up stored or app-based music in place of the game soundtrack from a connected smartphone or tablet.

The headset boasts interchangeable boom and inline microphones, three equalizer profiles, ear cushions designed for long gaming sessions, and connectivity with USB or TOSLink, including universal compatibility with PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, smartphones, and tablets.

The new headset, the first in the Rig line, will be available this fall for $129.
