Google Fiber service pricing revealed for Provo, UT expansion

updated 05:02 pm EDT, Mon August 19, 2013

System quick uptime credited to existing fiber network

Google is moving ahead rapidly with its upgrade to the Provo, UT expansion to Google Fiber. The search engine will be working until October to upgrade the existing fiber network it purchased for $1 in April, and three fiber plans ranging from free to $120 per month and up have been made available to eligible residents of the area.

According to the Google Fiber blog post revealing the progress of the expansion, users can opt for free 5Mbps download with 1Mbps upload for seven years, Gigabit Internet at 1Gbps download and upload for $70 per month, or be provided with television over fiber for $50 per month over the Gigabit tier and up depending on channel package selected. Each plan will require a one-time $30 buildout fee. The previous "free" tier in Kansas City required a one-time fee of $300, but Kansas City was a new fiber buildout, not the improvement of an older one.
