iOS 7 for iPad 'running behind,' sources charge

updated 05:14 pm EDT, Mon August 19, 2013

iPad support may have to wait for iOS 7.0.1

Although Apple is almost finished with the iPhone and iPod version of iOS 7, the iPad release is running behind schedule, sources claim. iPad support only arrived two weeks after the first beta, and developers continue to complain that it's more unreliable than when the firmware is running on an iPhone. "Chatter inside Apple" allegedly points to the possibility of holding back iPad support from the public until a v7.0.1 update sometime in late September or October, possibly in tandem with new iPad models.

Apple is meanwhile said to be developing iOS 7 training sessions for Apple Stores, expecting customers to be surprised by the radically new look and functions of the OS. The OS is allegedly so different, however, that Apple is also working overtime to get it running on the iPhone 4. 7.x may be the last version of iOS to run on the device.

iOS 7.1 and 8 are reportedly already in development. The former may incorporate iOS in the Car features; as for 8, Apple is believed to be discussing a Siri API which would open up Siri functions to third parties, but only within categories like news and weather. The company has also been talking about using an iPhone's camera to improve iOS in the Car's data about road conditions, but both that and the Siri API aren't strictly tied to iOS 8.
