iCloud beta website redesigned to take after iOS 7

updated 02:20 pm EDT, Wed August 14, 2013

Apps, icons get new look, interface changes

Apple has redesigned the iCloud.com beta website to take after the look of iOS 7. The overhaul extends from icons and fonts through to many interface elements, such as the layout and buttons in Calendar. The website also operates somewhat differently; instead of having to jump back to the main menu to switch to another app, for instance, clicking the "iCloud" name in the upper-left will pop up a quick-switch panel.

The beta code will presumably be pushed to the main iCloud.com domain once iOS 7 itself is released, likely next month. One gap at the moment is that the iWork for iCloud apps continue to use the iOS 6 style -- Apple may be waiting until it updates iWork for iOS to carry forward. It's unclear when that will happen.

    Plus a subtle animated background.

You know, seeing the iOS 7 style icons right NEXT to the previous style icons REALLY brings home what a big jump (forward for the most part IMO) the new look is. The iWork icons look really bad right up next to the new ones.

I just realized the new iOS 7 icon for Contacts uses different color tabs for "A", "B", "C", and "D". The colors seem to imply the colors are somehow relevant to the Contacts app. However, I'm not aware of any functionality that assigns different colors to anything alphabetical or anything at all, right?

Seems like a misleading visual cue if it doesn't address actual funactionality – especially since the other productivity app icons (Calendar, Notes, Reminders) use colors that mimic actual elements in each app.
