Apple issues AirPort Base Station firmware update, fixes three bugs

updated 10:11 pm EDT, Tue August 13, 2013

Deals with Time Capsule, IPv6 and Wi-Fi connection issues

On Tuesday, Apple issued a firmware update for its line of Airport Wi-Fi routers, including the AirPort Base Station, Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme. The new version, 7.6.4, is available through the Airport Utility program itself as well as Apple's support website. The update addresses three issues, including a problem that could cause Airport Time Capsules to falsely report that the backup disk is in use; another that sometimes caused the devices to report that the backup disk is in use, along with two other issues.

The update also resolves an issue that could cause an IPv6 Tunnel error, and one that could intermittently cause a loss in Wi-Fi connectivity with iOS devices. The firmware update is only available for those models of Airport device that are 802.11n-capable. Users may see a warning that the firmware needs updating when first opening Airport Utility, or users can manually update within Airport Utility by choosing the Edit button and then the Update button.
