Ultra Mobile updates plans with 1,000 free minutes to select countries

updated 06:35 am EDT, Tue August 13, 2013

Cost of calls to other popular locations also dropped by virtual carrier

Ultra Mobile has updated all of its price plans to offer customers free calls to a number of countries. The prepaid virtual US carrier's Ultra Zero initiative will provide 1,000 minutes for calls to Canada, China, Mexico, Singapore, and the United Kingdom to its subscribers, with further minutes costing 1 cent per minute, as well as reducing the cost of calls to a number of other countries.

Calls to Cuba have gone from 98.5c to 72c for both mobiles and landlines, with India, Nepal, and Haiti similarly reducing down to 1c, 8c, and 19c respectively. Calls to landlines and mobiles in Poland have reduced to 1c and 3c, while landlines and mobiles in Nigeria now cost 6c and 4c per minute to contact.

Plans from Ultra Mobile start from $19, and aside from the 1,000 minutes, all include at least 50MB of 4G data, unlimited global texting, international calling credit, and at least 250 national calling minutes. Accessing the service requires an Ultra Mobile SIM card, available in a number of stores, and an unlocked GSM mobile phone.
