Google switching from Samsung to Asus for Nexus 10

Google may be consolidating manufacturers for its Nexus line of tablets this year, as an inventory screen spotted by suggests the device will be manufactured by Asus. Should the screenshot's prediction prove accurate, it would represent a change from last year's model, which was manufactured by Samsung. It is possible, though, that the inventory screenshot, which appears to come from an electronics retailer's system, contains filler or incorrect information.

The screenshot shows little additional information on the device, save that it will be available in a 16GB model with Wi-Fi. It would, presumably, feature upgrades in memory, processor, and possibly screen resolution over its predecessor. The first Nexus 10 featured one of the higher screen resolutions available in tablet form at the time of its release.

Google refreshed the Nexus 7 last month, adding a better processor and a higher-resolution screen to the device. That model is also manufactured by Asus, with which Google has partnered since the first Nexus 7. Late last month, an analyst cast doubt on the future of the search giant's relationship with the Taiwanese manufacturer, saying that Google might manufacture the next Nexus 7 in collaboration with South Korean tech giant LG.

Moving away from Samsung for the next Nexus 10 would not necessarily indicate a straining of relations between Google and the largest Android device manufacturer. Google has so far partnered with three companies on its Nexus products. The search company uses the Nexus program to give users a "pure" version of the latest version of Android, and it has previously expressed an interest in working with many partners within the program.
