Nokia pushes camera capabilities in epic new Lumia 1020 ad

Nokia has released a highly dramatized video that is designed to highlight the power of the 41-megapixel PureView camera built into its Lumia 1020 flagship smartphone. The video uses extensive CGI to animate in microscopic detail how light is captured by the lens and is captured by the sensor. It then shows the light particles being converted into digital signals before it is displayed to the user on the Lumia 1020's PureMotion HD+ display.

The camera in the Lumia 1020 is widely considered to be the best camera module in any smartphone. However, even though Nokia has worked hard to minimize its size, the module means that the phone cannot be placed flat on its back. As a camera-first smartphone, it is currently unchallenged for the quality of the images that is capable of producing. In addition to six-lens Zeiss optics, the camera can shoot 38-megapixel stills and can take oversampled 5-megapixel photos for sharing on social networks.

In addition to shooting video at 1080p, it can shoot at this quality at up to 4x zoom, or 720p at 6x zoom. Its bundled Pro Camera app allows for more pro-level control over functions like flash levels, shutter speed, white balance, exposure, ISO as well as focus. Its 4.5-inch AMOLED display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, with self-healing properties, while it is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 matched with 2GB of RAM. It is available through AT&T exclusively for $300 on a two-year plan. [via Phone Arena]
