T-Mobile CEO hints at carrying 'whole array' of Apple devices

updated 03:19 pm EDT, Thu August 8, 2013

Could include iPad, iPad mini

People should expect to see T-Mobile USA supporting more Apple products in the near future, says the carrier's CEO, John Legere. "I think there's a whole array of Apple products that we look forward to carrying," he tells AllThingsD. "We will expand what we offer from them."

At the moment T-Mobile only sells the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5. By contrast, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon also carry the iPad and iPad mini, giving them a distinct advantage. Legere's statements could hint that the next-generation iPads due this fall will include T-Mobile models, or possibly hybrid AT&T/T-Mobile tablets, since both carriers are GSM-based. Supporting both carriers would mainly require a 3G/4G chip covering a wide range of frequencies.

Legere meanwhile comments that he's happy with his company's Q2 figures. "The postpaid phone net adds for T-Mobile exceeded those of AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon (added) together," he says. "To me, that's one of the strongest statements you can make about a quarter." T-Mobile reportedly saw three or more customers porting their number from AT&T and Sprint during the quarter for every two that left.

CMO Mike Sievert adds that the company has done well with its Jump early upgrade program. The option, which costs an extra $10 per month, is said to be up to 700,000 subscribers since it launched last month.
