Yahoo hires Zagat lead from Google to replace resigned Flickr chief

updated 05:29 am EDT, Wed August 7, 2013

Hiring of Bernardo Hernandez latest Google-Yahoo tansfer

Yahoo has installed a new leader for Flickr, with Google's managing director of product management for Zagat transferring to the company. The addition of Bernardo Hernandez to Yahoo to replace the resigned Brett Wayn is the latest ex-Google employee to take a prominent position in the company under the leadership of Yahoo CEO and early Googler Marissa Mayer.

Hernandez is said to have previously worked with Mayer at Google, with today being his first day at Yahoo, though it is suggested he has actually been at the company for a number of weeks. According to CNet, he will be working on the company's photo-sharing strategy, which could see increased integration between Flickr and prominent acquisition Tumblr.

Earlier transfers from Google to Yahoo include Henrique de Castro last October as chief operating officer, Andrew Schulte last August as chief of staff, Anne Expiritu, and Dylan Casey. The company has also bought a number of other companies in order to bolster itself, including Rockmelt and PhotoForge 2 developer GhostBird.
