Acer prepares budget Liquid Z3 for mid-August European launch

updated 08:10 am EDT, Mon August 5, 2013

Low-cost Liquid Z3 offers dual-SIM option, Android 4.2 installed

Acer has launched the latest budget device in its Liquid smartphone line. The low-cost Liquid Z3 provides a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, though it is thought not to be a high-resolution panel, along with a dual-core 1GHz processor from an unnamed manufacturer, and 4GB of storage packed into a relatively lightweight 120-gram (4.2-ounce) case.

Other standard smartphone features make an appearance, such as Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 3-megapixel rear camera, but unusually it offers dual SIM card slots and will be supplied with Android 4.2 onboard, according to PhoneArena. The Liquid Z3 is supplied with support for the company's AcerCloud cross-platform online storage service. It will also come with a number of predefined user profiles offering various home screen layouts, with "Basic Mode" offering simple call and text functions, a voice-centric "Keypad Mode," a "Senior Mode" with the weather, clock, quick contacts, and a magnify function; and a more-standard "Classic Mode" providing a more typical layout.

The Liquid Z3 will be made available in a number of countries in Europe, as well as Russia, for 99 euros ($131) by mid-August. It is unknown if it will go on sale in the United States in the future.
